With each passing day, more companies are committing to green energy and green energy solutions. Volvo is now one of the most recent to join these ranks.
This week, Volvo announced their strategy for going green and integrating electric vehicles more heavily into their lineup. While still not on the same level of Tesla, it’s a great move towards the green future. Volvo, which is traditionally known for being the safest vehicle, might also be looking to retake some of the street credibility that Tesla took with all of the safety features in their new model.
Focusing on plug-in hybrids in the coming years, Volvo hopes to have a fully electric vehicle by 2019 for consumer purchase.
“We believe that the time has come for electrified cars to cease being a niche technology and enter the mainstream,” said President and CEO of Volvo Cars Håkan Samuelsson. It is speculated that by 2020, 10% of all of their sales will be in electric vehicles.
As electric power and other green energy solutions become more efficient and readily available, more and more companies will begin to buy in. While not as ambitious as other early adopters of electric vehicles, we can’t help but applaud their decision!
